The Five Friends of Christ: Apostles Silas, Silvanus, Epaenetus, Crescens, and Andronicus

The Five Friends of Christ: Apostles Silas, Silvanus, Epaenetus, Crescens, and Andronicus

Our dear children, good morning!

Today, July 30th, our Church celebrates five very important Saints! They were all Apostles, which means they were "sent out" by Jesus Christ Himself to tell the good news (the Gospel) to the whole world! They were part of a special group, the "Seventy Disciples" of the Lord. All of them loved Christ very much and fought with all their soul to spread the faith.

Let's get to know them better:

1. Apostle Silas: Paul's Faithful Companion

Silas was a very important person among the early Christians. At first, he went with Apostle Paul and other Apostles to carry a very important letter to Antioch, with decisions about our faith.

Later, Silas became the faithful friend and companion of Apostle Paul! They traveled together to many places, like Troas and Macedonia, to tell people about Christ. Imagine how many adventures they had!

In Philippi, they were chased, beaten, and put in prison. But God helped them escape in a miraculous way!

They baptized many people, like a woman who sold beautiful fabrics, Lydia, and the jailer with his whole family! That's how the first Churches were founded.

Silas followed Paul to other cities too, like Thessaloniki and Berea. When Paul left for Athens, Silas stayed in Berea and continued to speak about Christ. Later, he became the bishop of Corinth, meaning the leader of the Church there.

2. Apostle Crescens: The Traveling Bishop

Apostle Paul also mentions Crescens, saying that he went to preach in Galatia. Crescens later became bishop in Carthage of Spain. He led many people to believe in Christ and lived with great love and virtue. When his time came, he fell asleep peacefully.

3. Apostle Silvanus: The Bishop of Thessaloniki

Silvanus, whose name means "sent one," became the bishop of Thessaloniki. He loved Christ so much that he struggled and endured many difficulties and tortures for his faith.

4. Apostle Epaenetus: The Bishop of Carthage

Apostle Epaenetus was also a strong fighter for the faith. He became bishop in Carthage and also struggled greatly for Christ, showing his example to everyone.

5. Apostle Andronicus: The Brave Martyr

Finally, Apostle Andronicus struggled and endured much for his faith in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. His life was a shining example of courage and devotion.

Let's Remember Them!

Our Church honors the memory of all these Holy Apostles today, July 30th. They were all brave friends of Christ, who showed us with their lives how to love God and people.

May the Holy Apostles Silas, Silvanus, Epaenetus, Crescens, and Andronicus be our help!

Have a good and blessed day!
